Canal breach at Cornhill |
The canal is blocked at Cornhill bridge and pumps move 600 litres of water per second around the breach to provide Crewe and Nantwich with water. After the breach happened the water level at Hurlestone reservoir dropped by almost 2 metres. |
Water enters the canal beyond the breach. Only a week before this photo was taken some 4 miles of canal were empty of water |
At the level of the towpath the breach does not appear to be too extensive |

From below the embankment the full extent of the breach can be seen. The canal side is being strengthened with new 15 metre plies, then reinforced by stone. Temporary roadways have been laid over field to give access to the lorries. |
